Capital City Ball Benefits DC-Based Anti-Human Trafficking Group

Impact of Human Trafficking Policies - a Debate

Do you have concerns about the potential negative impacts of well-meaning anti-human trafficking policies?

Come to an interactive brown bag lunch lecture on “Human Trafficking, Prostitution, Pandemics and Politics: Do Anti-Trafficking Policies Hurt the Most Vulnerable?” this Wednesday afternoon at American University Washington College of Law.

Joanna Busza, senior lecturer in sexual and reproductive health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, will discuss her public health research conducted among Vietnamese sex workers in Phnom Penh, Cambodia and among Eastern European prostitutes working in London to demonstrate how attempts to reduce exploitation can result in increased human rights abuse and vulnerability to health risks such as HIV.

Come to a brown bag lunch discussion featuring Dr. Laura Lederer, president of Global Centurion, this Tuesday at Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law.

Global Centurion is a nonprofit with a particular focus on reducing the demand for child sexual slavery. In Haiti, Global Centurion has helped to educate healthcare providers on recognizing the signs of sex trafficking, organized public awareness campaigns on trafficking using radio jingles in local Creole and launched an SMS helpline designed to monitor gender-based violence, child abuse and human trafficking throughout Haiti’s tent cities.
