COMCAST Woes

Ever since COMCAST and other carriers have felt safe enough to charge Netflix and other content providers to keep from slowing down access to their site, overall speed for customers has gone down considerably.

I can't even update Facebook, it is so slow.

This post is being written in my phone because the T-mobile connection is faster than using a PC. Now that's pathetic.

I had been in the habit of shopping at this avant garde antique shop here in D.C.  It has no advertising and no signage.  You just have to know where it is to shop there.  And frankly, only a few hundred people do. 

 

You can never know in advance what furniture will be there, and it never stays for long.  So if you don't grab it immediately, you will never get it.

 

Most of the wares are entirely unique, with a few everyday things thrown in for fun.

 

And until I heard Rory Sutherland on a podcast, I just thought I was getting thrown out, used furniture from an alley behind my house.  Imagine!

Wow. I guess the negative feedback from the last time Barak Obama's people pulled the guilt routine didn't work, so they are using that trick again. 

When the reminder/guilt trip was used last, however, no one was aware of the drastic reduction to our privacy rights. 

So read this message within the context of Snowden's revelations:

I don't want to make this awkward, but... It looks like you haven't signed OFA's birthday card for President Obama yet.

This handy messaging lets me know two things at once:  that my non-participation is being logged, and that their reminder to me could expect to give rise to feelings of uncomfortability. That they would expect feelings of uncomfortability to arise in me. 

Given that the government, and private groups, are able to track our online actions, this hint of theirs seems to be kind of a threat. 

And even if that interpretation is just my mood, it certainly is annoying.
