Tea Party Revolution Starts Here: Form To Reject Medicare

Below is a handy-dandy form I've created that Tea Party adherents can use to reject Medicare, that odious Government-sponsored health care program. The next time the Tea Party hoses up traffic in Washington, DC, we residents, the true "taxation without representation" citizens, can bring hundreds of these forms for them to fill out. Hooray!

ATTACK on Rally for Sanity by Drinkingwithbob

YouTube's Drinkingwithbob is a powerful voice for anger and outrage, and he turns all his talents on denouncing the Rally for Sanity. He's always fun to listen to and often is funny as well. I will admit to being a fan, although I rarely agree with his political opinions.

In Case You Missed the Rally for Sanity...

Here's Jon Stewart's speech. More people, you will happy to note, are interested in sanity than in screaming slogans that they don't really mean anyway. You know, like ending government health care (Medicare).

VOTE Tuesday for DC Attorney General !!

Washington, DC does not have an elected Attorney General. Right now, the Attorney General is appointed by the Mayor. The problem with that is conflict of interest. If the Attorney General owes his political job to the Mayor, how likely is the AG to prosecute corruption in the District government? Not very.

On Tuesday, the citizens of the District of Columbia will vote on whether or not they want to elect their Attorney General. Please, go out and vote on this important issue.

There is an important balance between branches of government. And the kind of cockiness that leads a mayor to appoint his frat buddies to important positions depends on a reasonable confidence that there will never be a criminal investigation.

I know people in the non-profit world who have worked with Washington, DC's incoming mayor when he ran a non-profit here. They told me he was one of the sleaziest people they have ever met. Time will tell if that is true.

All I know is that the city would be a whole lot better off if the person deciding to prosecute corrupt officials was not beholden to any of them.

End Times in Glover Park

Has anyone else noticed the invasion of garter snakes in Glover Park? They are all over the place, making the grass move and flopping on the sidewalk.

This section of the city has much more grass than Columbia Heights, for instance. It may be just that I am unused to the level of nature that comes with that. On the other hand, I haven't seen a rat since I moved here in January.

But aside from all naturalistic musing, isn't it true that snakes all over the place is a signal of end times?

Facebook Page Tells Tea Party Freaks About Real Taxation Without Representation!

All right, all right. Maybe I'm a little moody tonight. Still, how can those tea party people shout about taxation without representation and not be in favor of DC statehood? Talk about taxation without representation!

Hey, let's post the DC Taxation Without Representation Facebook page on Tea Party Facebook pages. I mean, they won't be obviously that hypocritical, will they?

But of course, no one in the tea party is interested in a real "taxation without representation" issue. Especially if it involves a lot of black people. Great article in Rolling Stone about Tea Partiers. They are deeply offended if you imply they are racist. Every one of them interviewed for the article said "some of my friends are black." Well, that settles it.

The abiding suspicion among my bluish friends is that the Tea Party is really upset that their cultural revolution has failed. The clock did not turn back to a daydreamy time of security that never really existed in the first place. If the Tea Party was painting a true picture, it would include the nuclear war drills for schoolchildren known as "duck and cover." Hiding under your desk and putting your arms over your head wouldn't really do anything to protect you though.

Washington, DC suffers from it's lack of Congressional representation. If the Tea Party types are for real, let them fight for us. If they are not really racist or reverse elitists, let them fight for us.

I'm holding my breath.

Censored By The CIA

Some of you might remember my little run-in with my contracting employer a few years ago: the CIA. You know, the old "Waterboarding is Torture, and Torture is Wrong" blog post that got me fired. And for the record, I never wanted my job back. So you can stop bitching about that right now.

I bring up this history to illustrate a point. I wrote a book proposal just after "the incident" as my mother calls it, titled "Torture Doesn't Work". No big surprises. I relied on U.S. Civil War history about Andersonville, history from the Battle of Algiers and the Vietnamese War with the French before American involvement in that conflict. No classified sources. No classified information, as I was not old enough to be working for the U.S. Government during those conflicts. What could be safer? What could be more unclassified?

I have always maintained that the most important information is unclassified anyway.

My sources were all in libraries and computer servers. All were public domain history books. All I added was my analysis about how torture was proven to be ineffective in getting information or winning a war. The terror problems we have now started with the torture of Muslim clerics in Egyptian prisons. Torture didn't work for the French, either.

Have you guessed yet? The CIA is still reviewing my book proposal for classified information over four years later. If I went hog-wild and self-published that book, I could go to prison or be made a pauper by malicious prosecution.

When debating this topic amongst your friends, remember this little story. And then tell me that an intelligence review is not also a political review.

Big Vote For DC on November 2!

November 2nd is a very important voting day for DC residents. There is an initiative on the ballot for DC residents to elect their own District Attorney. Right now the Attorney General for DC is appointed by the Mayor.

I'm just waiting for the day when DC can act like any other city and demand that it's firemen and police officers live here as well as work here. Every other major city in the country does it. And with good reason. Those tax dollars stay in the city and don't spill out to the suburbs. Bleh. Don't those people know they'd be nothing without the District?

And would the Mayor be so keen on giving his friends lucrative city contracts if he didn't appoint the Attorney General?

Those jerk face suburban Congressmen have trashed the city long enough. Let's cut their power supply. Yeah!

Foreign Money Used to Influence U.S. Elections

Singapore, Germany, Bahrain, and especially India are the countries whose money is being used by the Chamber of Commerce and the Republican Party to sell out the interests of the tax-paying American. You wonder why the Chamber of Commerce is in favor of outsourcing American jobs? They get a large chunk of dues from companies from India.

American elections should be about what is best for America, not the rest of the world. The American worker has been suffering and thrown out of work and had his house taken away from his family. All the while Republicans and the Chamber of Commerce have been saying that outsourcing jobs is a good thing for everybody. Tell that to the guy who can't find work.

Ann Coulter: The Travails of a Right-Wing Nut Job

Ann Coulter made the mistake a few months ago of not being as rabidly anti-gay as her fans. After her speech to conservative gay Republicans, Ann Coulter has been flailing around trying to regain her past status as the go-to person for right-wing nut jobs. You can see how displeased they were by the extent she is anti-gay now.

She has since then been trying to make up for that by saying all manner of insane anti-gay things. Basically, she is flip-flopping around to get to be in the sweetheart job again, with thousands of adoring, crazy fans.

Ann Coulter's latest rehabilitative effort has been public support of Carl Paladino, Republican candidate for Governor in New York. Carl Paladino addressed a group of Orthodox Jews and included in his remarks "don't be brainwashed by thinking that homosexuality is equally valid." No one is standing up for Paladino except Ann Coulter.

Until now, I have believed Ann Coulter was sincere in her rantings. Her quick responses, her mannerisms, her demeanor gave the impression she really meant all those crazy things she said. Her support of Paladino rings hollow in comparison. Lately, she has given the impression of someone flailing around to get the support she once enjoyed.

To her credit, Ann Coulter is not directly agreeing with Paladino. She dismisses his anti-gay remark as political pandering.

I guess the vast right-wing conspiracy is fickle and intolerant. Tow the line or get thrown overboard.

US Government Contractors Replacing US citizens with Indian Workers

No wonder there is a shortage of jobs. U.S. Government contractors are firing Americans for administrative support positions and hiring people from India instead. And don't tell me how this is the free market. The government contractors only have the contracts because the U.S government gave them to that company. They should be required to keep those jobs here.

Here's a New Perspective on Campaign Finance Reform

YouTube's Drinkingwithbob has a large and loyal fan base. I don't really agree with him much of the time, but he is fun to listen to and always raises thought-provoking ideas.

In this video, Drinkingwithbob points out that all the money spent by millionaires getting into public office would be better spent benefitting the state they want to run. With a few observations about why that is not the case.

YouTube parody of Hot Girls

If you don't troll YouTube you are really missing something. To think that all these really talented people were out there and until YouTube had no venue for video expression is a shame.

You Tube is also a political force by allowing international broadcasting powers to be given to anyone with a video camera. That's the real information revolution.

The Problem With Obama

Today's Washington Post reveals that Obama Administration officials knew about the problems with illegal foreclosure but felt they couldn't do much about it. What? Couldn't do much about it? The Making Homes Affordable Program is a good idea. The problem with the Obama Administration isn't the ideas. It's the lousy implementation of those ideas.

And it seems too often that President Obama is worried about the elite running the banks and ready to sacrifice the people whose money is in those same financial institutions. You know, the people who voted for him in the first place?

You cannot run a large organization by waiving your hands and announcing a grand policy. Without good implementation your policy will be words only. The entire fiscal crisis that Bush got us into has been dealt with by protecting the banks first and the depositors second.

There would be no mortgage crisis if people had jobs.

FORECLOSURE: FIGHTING BACK AFTER THE SALE

WITNESS VERIFIES ADMISSION OF ILLEGAL FORECLOSURE BY BANK OF AMERICA

A new legal tool in the foreclosure crisis is suing for wrongful foreclosure. Jacqueline Horton’s condo was illegally foreclosed on by Bank of America and her property sold at auction July 7, 2010. On September 9, 2010, she hired Axsmith Law to fight back and is suing for $3,508,500.00 under DC law.

Ms. Horton is suing Bank of America for not only illegally foreclosing and selling her property, but then buying it in a directly self-dealing transaction. While it is common practice for banks to buy properties they have illegally foreclosed on, it is also fraud. Axsmith Law intends to attack this fraudulent scheme.

When Bank of America sent Jacqueline Horton a letter with a phone number on it, she expected it to be correct. When that phone number was given as a source of information about her mortgage loan, she expected the information given to also be correct. It wasn’t. Her home was foreclosed on illegally by Bank of America while she was told to not take legal action because the foreclosure process was put on hold. She lost her home as a result and faces homelessness for her and her children. And we’ve got a witness: DC Housing Counseling Services, 2410 17th Street NW, Suite 100, Washington, DC 20009.

Coal and Energy Independence, circa. 1976

An ad in Time Magazine by the coal industry lauds the use of coal as a means to energy independence. See copy above.

It is sad to see that the same issue is preoccupying America now as in 1976: energy independence. Imagine all the free money we would have since the U.S. would not have to fight all those wars to secure our energy supply. Think of all the lives saved. Think of all the schools funded. Thank you, Ronald Reagan. We appreciate what you did more than ever now. Not in a good way.

Geothermal Energy in DC Affordable Housing

Geothermal heating for a housing project originally built for veterans after WWII, Wheeler Terrace has been retrofitted to use green energy.

You never think of DC for geothermal heating and cooling. It's always Iceland or someplace like that. And you certainly don't think of affordable housing, either.

But here it is in DC, "Located in the Washington Highlands community, Wheeler Terrace is the first affordable housing complex in the District expected to meet both the Enterprise Green Communities Criteria for affordable housing and the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold standard." from The Washington Informer.

The innovation is expected to bring a 25% reduction in energy consumption for Wheeler Terrace. Pretty good!

Illegal Foreclosure and What You Can Do About It

If you have been illegally foreclosed on, you have options under DC Law. In fact, there are cases that uphold several million dollars in punitive damages for an illegal foreclosure.

You don't have to take this. Don't. Call a reputable law firm, one with experience and a history of success and fighting the big guy on behalf of the little guyl to get the help you need.

Axsmith Law has been representing homeowners in the field of foreclosure defense and illegal foreclosure since the crisis began.

Non-Judicial Foreclosure

An Out of Court foreclosure, or non-judicial foreclosure is when a mortgagee forecloses on a mortgage without filing a lawsuit, or getting a court order. In the District of Columbia, many foreclosures are out-of-court, as mortgages in the District often have clauses allowing the mortgagee pre-authorized right to sell the dwelling.
An Out of Court foreclosure saves the lender time and money to foreclose without having to utilize the courts. In Maryland, for instance, the lender must file an order to docket before a foreclosure can commence, but no hearing needs to be held before the sale of the home can begin.
The debtor can reinstate the loan up to five days before the foreclosure sale by paying the amount, but this can occur no more than once in two years. If the out-of-court foreclosure succeeds, but the house sells for less than the loan, a bank may seek a deficiency judgment, trying to get the mortgagor to pay the difference between the sale amount and what was borrowed.

Foreclosure Specialist

One growing employment field is that of the Foreclosure Specialist, a real estate agent who works exclusively with foreclosed real estate. This can be extremely challenging work, as, thanks to the predatory loan practices, many naïve buyers put little or no money down when getting mortgages, and are awash in negative equity.

Often buyers have purchased a home for a certain amount, and then the value of the property goes down, and they owe more than the property is worth, thus not being able to refinance if they are unable to make payments.

One of the riskiest home mortgages offered was the option adjustable rate mortgage (ARM) which started out offering low minimum payments. But the option ARM’s low payments were temporary, as they were not fixed rate mortgages.

Sometimes the foreclosure specialist can help a debtor to transfer the title to a corporate entity, or help the borrowers get a Small Business Administration loan. Today, having someone who is loan and real estate savvy is quite necessary when dealing with the crises that have been created by the easy-come-hard go loan systems.
