I just wanted to let you know that we have a unique opportunity as a community group to help close a Dupont Circle brothel that has been trafficking Asian women. As we seek to leverage our power as grassroots organization to advocate, signing the petition DC SMS-member Dan Brook created (see below) is a tangible way we can make a difference in our community. Thanks, -- Danielle WipperfurthLead OrganizerDC Stop Modern Slavery Hi All: DC SMS has posted its first ever petition on change.org telling a prominent DC businessman, Jerry Schaeffer, to stop leasing his Dupont Circle property to Spa Sky, an Asian massage parlor at 1215 Connecticut Avenue NW, which has recently been confirmed by law enforcement to be a front for an illegal brothel.  As many of you already know Asian massage parlors are very often thinly veiled fronts for commercial brothels and have been known to traffic women through a system of debt bondage.  Also, as emphasized at our last meetup by Jeanette Manning of the DC Attorney General's Office, getting landlords to stop leasing to these brothels is a crucial strategy in permanently closing them down.  So, if you can spare just a minute, please let Mr. Schaeffer know that we as community members will not tolerate landlords profiting indirectly from these illegitimate businesses.  To sign on to the petition go to: http://www.change.org/petitions/tell-prominent-washington-dc-landlord-to-stop-leasing-to-illegal-brothels?share_id=ThlgDxmrTH&pe=pce    Also, if you have any questions about the petition or the case, please email me at dan@stopmodernslavery.org   Thank you!
