Mainstream media is now reporting the massacre by police officers one week after Hurricane Katrina destroyed much of New Orleans. The story was originally reported by the Workers Daily, the Communist newspaper. For years, this story sat there, ignored by media outlets because two of the eyewitness reporters were Communist.
So while we are all clucking about the tragedy, let's remember to hold the media accountable as well.

Bailout As the American Way of Life
It's not just Wall Street. Morons in Texas also want to be bailed out. Let's review the logic here:
Hmmm, "certain death" if I remain, according to the National Weather Service. Oh, heck, I can go buy a generator after the storm. And I'll get gas and food then, too. No need to think ahead of time, especially with all the warnings and stuff.
Let's not forget the one thing all these non-thinking bailout candidates have in common: they are conservatives.
Yes, those conservatives that want less government also want a bailout.
Remember all those rants about how government regulation of Wall Street weren't needed anymore? Remember Katrina, when the Federal government let local and state governments take the lead?
So it seems there is a role for Federal regulation after all. It's to prevent these kind of bailouts.

Gustav: Taking the Party Hat Off
The chair of the Republican Party is "taking his party hat off" relating to the storm Gustav and its relief efforts. But only because everybody is looking now.
When the victims of Katrina were invisible, this Administration didn't care. The political theorists felt that the Federal government should have a reduced role in rescuing states in distress, and the result was death and chaos.
They won't get away with that again, and they know it.
So now they care. I really believe they do. For themselves.

Katrina and the Housing Crisis - A Conservative Philosophy
The disasters of Federal policy seen in the handling of Hurricane Katrina and the mortgage crisis have one common origin: the faulty belief that there is no Federal role in the national affairs of the United States. It's time to admit it. There are issues that are too big to be left to one state or the short-sighted greed of our financial community to manage.
The Bush Administration's "let the state handle it" philosophy did so poorly by the residents of New Orleans that even third world survivors of a tsunami felt bad for them.
Now the stability of our nation's economy is in jeopardy because we had a Fed Chairman, Alan Greenspan, who believed in the same limited role of government. Coupled with a President content to experiment with state's rights at the expense of our poorest residents, and these disasters are the result.
Have we had enough of "I believe in the free market" and "I believe in state's rights" as an excuse for greed and inaction? Probably not. Because as soon as their interests are hurt, people will find a sincere big-government liberal in their souls.
