The Inauguration: DUIs and Revelry

What are you doing for the Inauguration? The greedy little Washingtonian in me wanted to rent sleeping space at $150 a night. We have a big house and would do quite well by that.

But really, I don't want strangers all over the house. In fact, I didn't even want to leave the house for the festivities because of the mobs of people who will be coming to town. Just getting a pizza will be a struggle with those kinds of numbers.

And then, my little chickadees, the DC Government announced that bars will stay open Inaugural week until 5 a.m. That's when I decided not to leave my house for a week.

Now maybe I don't want to be an active part of the wild partying. Personally, I consider myself well past such things for many years now. I might even consider such a policy move as 24 hour drinking to be less than wise. However, when I heard members of Congress paternalistically yammering on about the evils of 24 hour drinking, I got annoyed. Who are those losers to tell the residents of the District of Columbia ANYTHING?

Maybe I don't want to party. Maybe I never do. Maybe a good time for my husband and I is discussing children's books from 1925. But, by God, don't let those interfering smarty pants in Congress tell me what's wise or not. Let's see Congress intervening on decisions in their local districts and watch how much they would scream and holler.

We don't care what you think, you stupid idiots. Shut up! Meanwhile, I'll be doing the funky chicken in the comfort of my living room.

Worst Week Ever From the Worst President Ever

President Bush, who inherited a balanced budget, spent like a drunken sailor for eight years, and here we are. The amount of American debt that the international community has bought is directly related to the amount we had to borrow to pay for President Bush's profligate spending. Now our entire country is indebted to, and dependent on, foreign money to stay afloat. Since when is that conservative?

George Bush's breed of Republican is interested in power for power's sake. The ideology they chant is only meant to gather support for what they want to do.

Certainly no one can say that President Bush's philosophy of less government, and getting government out of the lives of people, has any relationship to his actions.

George Bush likes to blame other people for his problems. Who is getting the blame this time? Is it going to be another "Clinton recession"? That is what President Bush called the recession of 2001. I'm just waiting for the conservative media machine to revisit the phrase.

Rep. Cantor on Hardball

Hey Congressman! When you're describing the pain and fears of Americans in this financial crisis, don't smile. It kind of takes away from your practiced visage of conern.

Rep. Cantor couldn't hold his glee back. He grinned throughout his conversation with Chris Matthews.

Further, he wouldn't admit to supporting the Republican President nor allow any responsibility to rest with President Bush or the Republican Congress.

Bailout As the American Way of Life

It's not just Wall Street. Morons in Texas also want to be bailed out. Let's review the logic here:

Hmmm, "certain death" if I remain, according to the National Weather Service. Oh, heck, I can go buy a generator after the storm. And I'll get gas and food then, too. No need to think ahead of time, especially with all the warnings and stuff.

Let's not forget the one thing all these non-thinking bailout candidates have in common: they are conservatives.

Yes, those conservatives that want less government also want a bailout.

Remember all those rants about how government regulation of Wall Street weren't needed anymore? Remember Katrina, when the Federal government let local and state governments take the lead?

So it seems there is a role for Federal regulation after all. It's to prevent these kind of bailouts.

Infidelity and the President

The point of a Presidential candidate's infidelity is that such behavior shows a lack of self-control and a penchant for stupid, dangerous risks.

Sure, the guy's under pressure. Sure, he loves to be adored. But as our nation's leader, he is supposed to put the greater good first. That's what is so problematic about Senator Edward's infidelity. He had an affair during a time when it was most likely to be discovered and would hurt his career and family the most. And he did it anyway.

I'm sure that as President, Senator Edwards would also have heard the siren song of invincibility. Would that be the time to open himself up to blackmail because of an ill-advised dalliance? I hope not. The President of the United States represents us and negotiates on our behalf. This country needs someone they can trust to do that.

Bush, McCain and Iraq

John McCain is a good soldier. So when he tells the President that he has his support on Iraq policies, John McCain means it. And he doesn't just mean it for the moment, he follows through with his words and his actions.

So Barak Obama wants to set a timetable for U.S. withdrawal from Iraq and the President of Iraq agrees. John McCain stands his ground as he doubtless agreed to do. Then the President talks about a timetable to withdraw himself, leaving John McCain as the only person supporting prolonged and indefinite staying in Iraq.

John McCain is at a disadvantage in dealing with George Bush. The President has no honor.

At bottom is a President who is incredibly threatened by a successor. So even if it is a clear advantage to do so, President Bush will not allow John McCain to succeed.

Mr. President, there will be no one to protect you from international prosecutions if you don't have John McCain in the Presidency. I just thought someone should tell you, that's all.

Obama the Statesman

Senator Barak Obama is appearing to be a better diplomat and representative of the United States than the current President. He looks Presidential, other foreign leaders obviously like him, he draws huge crowds.

George Bush is put to shame by the comparison with Barak Obama on international junkets. No one would ever dream that Barak Obama would wink at the Queen of England. Nor would we imagine the Senator telling the Pope his speech was "awesome."

In short, Senator Barak Obama has shown the United States what it means to be proud of the deportment of a President. Or potential President. Until this trip I didn't really take the fervid enthusiasm for Senator Obama too seriously. Now he has shown he really could do the job, and almost looks like he's starting doing it already.

Down With Obama! - A Small Town Pennsylvania Girl Speaks

Barak Obama is not ready to be President of the United States. And the day he gets ready, he is not suitable to be President of the United States.

As a small town Pennsylvania girl growing up next to the Appalachian Trail, I lived, grew up and almost died in small town Pennsylvania. Do not mistake their beliefs as something to do until good jobs appear.

What Barak Obama's comments about "clinging to guns" really means is that he hopes America has changed more than it has. He is hoping that the color of his skin is not going to be a disadvantage in small town Pennsylvania if he can offer economic advantage. He is wrong. Not completely, but still he is wrong.

What Mr. Obama wishes is that these mythical small town Pennsylvanians are ready to abandon their racism, not their guns or religion. The color of a person's skin is going to be a factor in any small town Pennsylvania election. And in any District of Columbia election. Or any election in the United States of America. Race may not be the overwhelming weight it used to be on the scales, but it is still there.

Mr. Obama's comments reveal his attitude towards most of America as Lilliputians needing guidance. For that reason, he should never be President. And he never will be.

Bloggers are correct in saying that entire rituals surround the hunting experience. Besides which, it is fun! You get up early in the morning with your Dad, you pack your lunch, you go into the woods having put on your "kill the human scent" spray. And you wait. You wait for the deer to come out to eat so you can shoot them and bring home enough meat for the winter. Every one of us is here today because almost all of our ancestors did the same thing. They killed their food. It is not a bad thing.

Socks the Cat v. Clinton in the White House

Talk about soccer moms will pale in comparison to the pet lover's lobby. It is an untapped political steamroller.

So our new Clinton candidate took poor little Socks the Cat and got rid of her after she served no more political purpose. That poor cat. When people determine character, it is the treatment of their pets that they look at. Among other things.

What would it have taken to just keep the cat? Hillary needs to answer this. I'm sure many of you are laughing now, but just wait.
