An iPod for the Queen?

Who is handling the gift-giving for this Administration? First, there's the junk that they gave to Gordon Brown. I mean, movie DVDs?

And now President Obama gives the Queen of England an iPod with his speeches on it. That's a level of hubris hard to imagine. It's like giving pictures of yourself as Christmas presents to all your friends. Autographed.

Dude. This is the Queen of England. Do you know how many world leaders she has met? And you give her an iPod with your speeches on it. I bet she can't wait to listen to it. She definitely hasn't heard enough speeches in her life from world leaders. Or perhaps he was thinking that it could become a collectors item one day.

Whoever is handling the gift-giving for this Administration needs to be replaced. Period.

Dude. Don't get all preachy about how to treat world leaders when you don't know the difference between Tony Blair (previous Prime Minister) and Gordon Brown (current Prime Minister) yourself. FYI - the DVD's were a gift to Gordon.

What do you get for the Queen Of England who has everything??

And what do you want to bet that the Queen did not already have an I-Pod?

I used to work in the diplomatic field at the airport. And I know this to be 100% true.

The President of Bolivia gave everyone at a South American trade summit a traditional Bolivian musical instrument that was covered on coca leaves.

Including the US representative, which I believe was Condi Rice.

Now this is the fun part. You give someone a gift covered with the leaves of a plant that is illegal in the USA. To a representative from the USA.

An I-Pod is a much better gift when you think about it.

Iggy, you raise a good point. The Queen probably didn't have an iPod already. But those gifts are diplomatic gestures, not personal ones. And as a diplomatic gesture, an iPod is lousy.
